Programs

ACCION partners with high schools who do not employ college counselors or who have a student to counselor ratio of over 800 to 1. ACCION hosts workshops on the high school campus to assist students and parents through the college admission process, beginning in the 9th grade. Workshops are hosted in both Spanish and English. It is ACCION’s mission to promote a “college-going” culture with each group it reaches.

Parent Session topics:

- Introduction of college/university systems
- How to promote a college-going culture in your home
- How to apply for financial aid
- Methods to support your child during the college selection process

Student Session topics:

- How to prepare for college starting now
- Study skill tips to keep you organized
- Create a “prepare to act plan”
- College essay workshop
- Questions to ask when visiting a college campus
- How to choose a college that’s right for you
